Zak Carr
Zak Carr (born March 6, 1975 Norwich, Norfolk, died 17 October 2005) was a British cyclist who specialised in the time trial discipline.
He was a multiple national champion, winning the 12 Hour, 50 Mile Team and 100 Mile Team titles in 2003.〔http://ctt.org.uk/Default.aspx?&gv553__gvac=2&tabid=151&gv553__gvff0=M100T_TT&gv553__gvfl0=0〕 He also competed in tandem events, and was aiming to ride at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics as a sighted pilot.〔http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/latest/349371/driver-who-killed-zak-carr-jailed-for-five-years.html〕
He was killed while cycling to work along the A11 road from his home town of Attleborough towards Norwich. He was struck from behind by a motorist who was returning home from a holiday. The driver was later sentenced to five years in prison; the prosecution argued he was sleep-deprived after an overnight flight and fell asleep at the wheel.〔http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/norfolk/6309949.stm〕
